Flexovit Canada opened for business in 1974 in Mississauga, Ontario. Business communication at that time was done using desk phones and a Telex machine. Accounting and inventory was done using ledgers and hand written stock cards. A handshake was all that was necessary to get an order and inventory was the key to keeping the customer. There were very few manufacturers of bonded abrasives in North America and wheels from “across the pond” came by boat, usually with long and sometimes inconsistent lead times.
Originally purchasing abrasive wheels from Europe, this family owned company quickly realized that a local source for product would speed up deliveries and show both distributors and end users that Flexovit was an involved member of their community.
Flexovit USA was established in 1977 in Angola, NY to manufacture abrasives in support of future growth across North America.
In the early ‘80’s, continued growth allowed Flexovit Canada to move into a much larger 14,000 sq. ft. building in Brampton, Ontario.
In the 38 years that Flexovit has been involved in Canadian business, we have grown and adapted to changing markets and industries.
Today, Flexovit Canada provides cutting, grinding and finishing solutions to all market segments including metalworking, welding, oil and gas, railroad, foundry, construction and rental.
In the past year we have introduced new products such as Black Gold for Oil and Gas, RailTrack, Foundryhog and Brilliant for the economy minded professional.
Flexovit understands that value is measured differently depending on the circumstances of your business. Our catalogue and new website detail a number of levels of product to help you run your business efficiently.
Distribution is an important part of our success. Flexovit has established long term relationships with both national and local distributors across the country that keep inventory on a local level and are trained to sell Flexovit.
Our team of factory trained technical sales people perform no charge product and safety demonstrations at end users. Safety is so important to us that we provide these seminars even if the end user is not using Flexovit.
While it may be difficult to call an abrasive product “Green”, every effort is made to minimize our carbon footprint. All literature, including this newsletter, is available electronically. Our internal mailing lists, invoices, statements etc. are also available electronically and we are continually working towards a paperless system.
Business communications now are instant. Cell phones keep us in touch anywhere we are. Tablets are used for sales, teaching and even ordering product. RF is used for warehousing and UPC codes help locate and control inventory.
The Flexovit advantage is the personal involvement from factory to the end user shop floor. Demonstrating safety, showing how the product is used, immediate delivery from a local source and timely follow up is still the key to keeping your business. And a handshake still works for us too.
